A new Mister...from another Sister..

Mr. G, 4 Months
September 26, 2013

The heart wants what the heart wants..
LOVE is a tricky thing...
It's scary...
It's unpredictable..
Sometimes we feel as though we are not ready for it..
Sometimes we don't think we are deserving of it..
BUT..
LOVE is all you need...
LOVE makes the world go round..
LOVE is life...
and
most importantly..
LOVE can heal...
Not 100%
BUT
just enough...

So I introduce to you..
with the greatest of pleasure..
Our newest family member,
my youngest of 4 sons..
the new LOVE of my life..
Mr. G!

Yes..that is a puppy in a bow tie..
but he is honoring his Southern heritage..
and since brothers share EVERYTHING..
I deemed it only appropriate that he should be wearing the
Monster's Easter gift from the Fabulous duo at Forage..
Since they are TRUE dog lovers..
I felt that they may approve...
plus it may even inspire them..
Forage dog collars anyone???

Apparently..
all it took was a photo to get my family on board...
Were we ready?
Probably not...
BUT
is one ever ready for a baby?

Luckily for us..
The Ladies over at The Simon Foundation in Bloomfield, Connecticut
held our future in their hands..
It took just one introduction..
one glance
one lick
one wag of a tail
and Mr. G became a true blue Wesson on
August 23, 2013.
Mr. G, 3 Months
August 23, 2013

As you can see from this image...
someone has already grown leaps and bounds..
In fact...
Someone gained 7.8 lbs in one month!!

There have definitely been some challenges..
What new baby doesn't bring them?!
BUT
thankfully Joanne Lincoln from The Simon Foundation
helped us tremendously and
we seem to be not only back on track
BUT
very fluent in dog speak...

With every negative comes a positive...
and
Mr. G has brought us this..
The ability to belly laugh again..
A very clean kitchen floor..
A sparring partner for Mr. C...
Snuggling..
Heartfelt licks..
What grass feels like for the first time..
Seeing the tiny moths that delicately leap through the grass..
Smelling and feeling the sea for the first time..
Running so fast your ears flap..
Trust
Joy
and
LOVE

It is truly amazing to me..
how much one little boy can change forever
the heart of a family...

I am eternally grateful to
My husband for opening his heart and giving puppy love a second chance..
The Ladies at The Simon Foundation for supporting us and giving us the love of our lives..
and
MOST importantly..
The sister who gave me a new mister..
Ruby..

Mr. G was one out of 11 pups...
so if you are looking..
Ruby's babies are still available..

So get ready folks...
You'll be seeing this boy quite often...
He's got lots to say
and
possibly some grand adventures to share..

Do you Flamingo?

Image by Slim Aarons of Durie Desloge and Wendy Vanderbilt

Today and yesterday have been an absolute gift from the gods above...

The thermometer has been reading 58 degrees with the most loveliest of lovely balmy breezes.
The warm humidity has my skin jumping for joy,
although my hair might just disagree...

It reminds me of our yearly pilgrimage to Florida to visit my grandmother when I was a child.

Sadly, I haven't stepped foot on Floridian soil since 2006, but my heart and soul think about it often...

I remember flying through a starry sky into the Orlando airport...
Stepping off the plane and having the intoxicating sweet smell of orange blossoms envelop me in the warm night air...
The dark silhouettes of the palm trees gently waved and welcomed me on our sleepy car ride to the house..
Being woken up by the smiling faces of the orange and yellow zinnias which papered the bedroom walls.
Stepping and hopping over cracks (not to break my mother's back) down the rough brick breezeway to the dining room
where
a freshly picked pink grapefruit awaited my arrival.
Seeing my long legged grandmother at the table dressed in her finest Lilly..
Always Lilly..always a skirt...

Such amazing memories that will forever be held in my mind and can always take me out of the darkest of places..

For some reason..
I don't know..
maybe it's because in my home,
 I live in a man's world...
BUT
I think I am in LOVE with pink...
what better way to honor pink??
With the most decadently delicious of all birds..

Catch of the Day...

Last Friday night on the Connecticut Shoreline...
the sea was a swelling and a storm was a brewing...
2 brave fisherman, the Tall One and his Dad, "Grand",
decided to brave it and head out by boat in their quest to
catch the winning fish for the Annual Wesson Family Fishing Tournament.

At 10:30 at night, the Tall One was a bit hesitant..
BUT
Adventure Seeker "Grand" pushed onward and yelled "bring the boy!"
The Monster being a mere 2 steps away from being dressed in his cozy pj's, grabbed his rod and the trio set off for the dock.

In the darkest of nights and not a star in the sky,
3 generations of Wesson men waited patiently for the first bite...
They waited...and waited... and waited...

FINALLY..
there was a bite...
a rather BIG bite..
The Monster carefully with all his might...
reeled her in..

Flashlights and a tape measure came whirling out...
Could it be a keeper?

Absolutely!!!
37 inches my friends!!
Triumph!!

But as my Great Aunt always said,
"one cannot keep a fish unless you know how to clean it"

So that's exactly what he did...

A day and a night went by and no other fisherman had caught a mightier fish...

So with the help of a magic chef, Cousin Dave, they honored the fish in a glorious feast...
at the Big Table..
with stories about the one that got away...
and how The Monster battled, caught and won
The Annual Wesson Family Fishing Tournament!

Needless to say..I am one proud Mama..
Yes..he won..
yes..he is the first kid to be on the trophy
BUT
it's really about the other lessons learned..

1. You never know until you try.
2. You are never too old or too young to take risks.
3. Family is important.
4. Grandparents can be much more fun than parents.
5. One cannot achieve great success without the help of others.
6. All our dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them.
-Walt Disney
So I say HOORAY to my 3 generations of Wesson men, who each won an award...
BUT
who also won a moment and a memory that will forever change and better their wonderful lives...
