The boys are gearing up...

Polishing the trophy, organizing their tackle boxes, ordering up the eels and preparing the coffee and hot chocolate as it's gonna be a long long night...

A night under a full moon...a Hunter's Moon to be exact..

Supposedly the word on the street is that there will be a penunmbral lunar eclipse.

There will also be laughter, family, good food and maybe even a teeny tiny bit of frustration...

But..

with perseverance and patience..

the possibilities are endless....

I cannot tell a lie..

I am extremely biased...

I am rooting for my Little Fish Whisperer...

 Bring it Home Monster..

Bring it Home..

Even if the trophy doesn't come back home...

The boys are gearing up for this weekend's Wesson Fishing Tournament...

Last year, the Monster won the whole shebang!!

Hooks and lures are meticulously arranged and cleaned..

Go Monster GO!!!

Catch of the Day...

Last Friday night on the Connecticut Shoreline...
the sea was a swelling and a storm was a brewing...
2 brave fisherman, the Tall One and his Dad, "Grand",
decided to brave it and head out by boat in their quest to 
catch the winning fish for the Annual Wesson Family Fishing Tournament.

At 10:30 at night, the Tall One was a bit hesitant..
BUT
Adventure Seeker "Grand" pushed onward and yelled "bring the boy!"
The Monster being a mere 2 steps away from being dressed in his cozy pj's, grabbed his rod and the trio set off for the dock.

In the darkest of nights and not a star in the sky, 
3 generations of Wesson men waited patiently for the first bite...
They waited...and waited... and waited...

FINALLY..
there was a bite...
a rather BIG bite..
The Monster carefully with all his might...
reeled her in..

Flashlights and a tape measure came whirling out...
Could it be a keeper?

Triumph!! 

 But as my Great Aunt always said,

"one cannot keep a fish unless you know how to clean it"

So that's exactly what he did...

A day and a night went by and no other fisherman had caught a mightier fish...

So with the help of a magic chef, Cousin Dave, they honored the fish in a glorious feast...

at the Big Table..

with stories about the one that got away...

and how The Monster battled, caught and won

 Needless to say..I am one proud Mama..
Yes..he won..
yes..he is the first kid to be on the trophy
BUT 
it's really about the other lessons learned..

1. You never know until you try.
2. You are never too old or too young to take risks.
3. Family is important.
4. Grandparents can be much more fun than parents.
5. One cannot achieve great success without the help of others. 
6. All our dreams can come true, 
if we have the courage to pursue them.

BUT 
who also won a moment and a memory that will forever change and better their wonderful lives...

It's ON...

It's the official start to  

The Wesson's Annual Fishing Tournament!!

 

The Tall One is polishing up his rods, getting his eel bucket cleaned and has already made one trip to the Island to drop of probably a 1/4 of his gear...

(the rest my friends...is ALL over the house)

The Monster will be coming home soon and is DETERMINED to bring home the kid's trophy because last year, his cousin, the lovely Miss C took home the trophy AND the glory...

After watching the documentary, Ethel on HBO last night...

it so reminded me of this wonderfully large family that I have married into...

Competition, naughtiness, the desire to spend time together and to really really laugh is what it's all about..

So hopefully..

My Boys will catch a few..

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!!

Oops..wait..that was 2 days ago....

My how time flies....

But..

I couldn't let the week go by without telling you what exactly the Monster brought to school for all his Valentines...

A few of you guessed correctly on what the theme was...

And even one of you blew my mind by guessing exactly what candy would be used...

Yup...good ole Swedish Fish..

The Monster's 2nd favorite candy right after chocolate of course...

But the tricky part was figuring out what type of card & packaging would be created...

So... I went through some of our fabulous photo archives, and came across one of the most perfect days my fishermen ever had...

Yes..that is actually a real fish...

and after a few poses here and there, I caught a couple shots of this beautiful giant right before the scaling and cleaning began...

Fish inspired..

I created a tented card printed on a thick watercolor paper with a twine handle. Inside was a mesh pouch tied with twine and filled with the most delectable Swedish fish!

But since (in my opinion) Valentine's Day isn't always about that mushy gushy romantic stuff...

It's about telling friends, family and those who support and care for you that you love them..

So I made one for all of you...

my fabulous readers who follow along with me, support me with your comments and occasional clicks to a rockin button and honestly make me love what I do!

Don't they taste yummy!!

Holiday Gift Guide Day 3 Fishing by Jono Wesson (The Hubbie)

Ok..I know it seems a little odd to have a Fishing Gift Guide but honestly and strangely enough it has become a large part of my life, as I have become......a Fishing Widow.  Living near and or on the water, it just simply cannot be avoided.  But I have to say..it's better than being a Golf one! He creeps out in the dark early mornings or late late evenings and returns, climbing back into bed with the smell of saltwater in his hair.  He checks the tides and moon schedules religiously from the months of April till the end of October. He would never admit it but I think he has found his religion. I get it..what is better than being one with nature, by the ocean and alone with your thoughts?

One thing, that I have learned in life and marriage, is that you need to allow yours and your spouses passions to be free. It has taken him awhile to find this passion (or obsession) and dare I say can he really understand mine or me his??..But i'd much rather be with someone who can find their inner happiness than not at all. Selfishly, it gives me a little alone time while he and the monster search for the "Big One".  Together they share this passion...arranging and re-arranging their lures, picking up live eels and exploring the rocky shoreline.

Those who know him, must be flabbergasted that he put this guide together. But I know that it is his passion and it awakens something in him that gives him the courage to do anything in the world.

So if you just so happen to be at the Watch Hill Lighthouse or on Little Narragansett Bay during the wee hours of the morning and see a very tall (6'7") dark haired handsome man with a bucket of eels and a cold beer, just give a nod and a wave and you'll know that it's my fisherman.
