Happy Weekend!!!

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!

WOW!!
What a wonderful week!!
So much excitement, joy and love...
Santa came as expected (with fingers crossed)...
Granting us another year of magic, hope and imagination!

However..
In the days that have followed...
there has been a MAJOR slow down...
So much so that for the first time in my life there have been several naps..
and those who know me..
I NEVER ever nap...
But I must be resting up for a VERY productive 2013!

So with a few more days left of 2012...
we shall HANG out in our jammies, watch a LOT of movies, eat a LOT of yummy food and not feel bad for doing so...

So CHEERS to one and ALL for the last lingering days of 2012...

Be Safe, Slow it down and Have a Great Weekend!!

Happy Weekend!!!

Styling by Chocolate Creative Design

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

This past weekend was full of mourning..
BUT
this weekend will be full of celebrating!

This week...
I got to do a little chocolate cake baking with the lovely Miss S..
(the beauty in the image above)
Had a scrumptious lunch with my Mom for her birthday...
Finished and mailed out the Glitter House...
Ate some homemade milk and cookies via the Monster..
Wished two of my favorite ladies a Happiest of Birthdays..
Miss O who turns double digits
and
Auntie Lisa who gets to watch her husband's band, The Bogmen, play at the Best Buy Theatre in NYC tonight..
(order me a 7 & 7 lady..)

One of the best parts of the week..
The Holiday Cards..
Boy did they arrive in droves...
Ours get proudly hung in our side entry for ALL to see and admire..

Now one might think that I would design and send out our own card..
Sadly that hasn't happened in about 7 years...

I guess I'm too busy designing everyone else's cards..
But we LOVE getting them so keep on sending them!!
I especially appreciated Miss Elizabeth's and Miss Melissa's wonderfully kind words regarding this crazy little blog of mine..
Thank you Ladies!!

So start working on the wishes friends..
You know what they say...
that it's the time of year when miracles can happen...

Be Safe, Light a Candle and Make a Wish and
Have a Great Weekend!!

Cookies and Milk...

Today I was supposed to do a fabulous little post about the
Velvet Mill Holiday Show...
However..
After finishing the Glitter House, sending it out to the Lovely Lena and then some last minute Christmas shopping..
I had to put these tired old dogs up and
rest my poor tired brain a bit....

When the Monster came home from school...
He poured us two glasses of cold milk
(mixed with a little chocolate syrup..because why not?!)
Popped some Nestle Toll House cookies into the oven..
Brought me to the couch...
Grabbed a blanket..
Plated the freshly baked cookies..
Turned on the T.V. ...
and said..
"This is the BEST day EVER Mama.."
Soo..
that fabulous little post will have to wait...
because I am his..
and
 He is mine...
Life is short..
So enjoy the time...

Happy Weekend!!!!

Kids as Christmas Angels

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!

I had a fun, silly and campy post for today..
Something about trimming the tree, tangled in tinsel..
blah blah blah..

But

Today happened...
I was plugging along..
getting some work done..
some Christmas shopping...
then
WHAM!!
Out of the blue..
no warning..
nothing...

As Miss Sarah Crawford said on Facebook..
"18 Angels"
That hits your heart like no other...
Now there are now 20 Angels(and 6 adults) all from my little State of Connecticut..
My mind is racing..
Unable to finish work, a thought, an emotion.

My heart hurts...
for those children..
the adults..
the parents..
the 20 empty stockings hanging on all the 20 mantlepieces..

Where my heart goes most..
The Moms...
Not just because I am one..
but because I know how they think..
Not to say that the Fathers are any less important..
but they think differently..
Men think in the moment..in the now..
Woman..especially Moms are magical..
Don't you know?!
We have eyes in back of our heads..
We see things before they happen..
We can see the future...

We can hear the crying before the child even stirs in its crib..
We can see the finger in the socket before the child is even 6 feet away from it..
We can predict the face plant, the blood, the broken nose and the stitches before the child even climbs the tree..

It's both a curse and a blessing..

We have saved our children about a zillion times..

Some may think we get anxious, crabby and irritable
but
seeing too much into the future can be a burden and weigh heavy on our hearts..

Putting our child on the bus for the first time..
Allowing someone else to care for them...
It's hard..
It's hard to let go, let them grow and keep them safe all at the same time..

We have visions of the bus turning over..
a fire in the school..
a stranger taking their small hand and leading them away..

It never ever ends..

So I know what those Mom's are thinking..
I know what they are feeling..
I know that the most painful part for them is that they feel they weren't able to keep them safe..

That is our most important job..
and
there is nothing more horrific then when we can't..

Today when the bus came to drop off the Monster...
I got in the road..
He has to get off on the other side and many many cars buzz by..
always in a hurry...
always on the phone..
always distracted..
So there I stood..
right smack dab in the middle of the road..
glaring them down..
our bus driver smiled..
there was a thumbs up..
but
there was no hug..
he tossed his backpack at me..
skipped past me
(yes my son skips..that's whole nother ball of wax)
smiled..
then ran inside..
Today..
I kept him safe
Today..
I am grateful
Today..
I was granted a gift.

 This weekend..
I will take my little gift and we will trim our tree, make our house merry and bright
and count our blessings..

HUGE hugs to all those affected in
 Newtown..
My heart sincerely goes out to all of you...

Be Safe, Hug those Babies and Have a Great Weekend!!!

Fabulous & Creative Wreaths.... Part Trois

You know it's the Holidays when wreaths begin to magically pop up on peoples doors...

I am obsessed with a good wreath and the one in the picture above has to be one of my ALL time favorites...
It was created by the flower whisperer herself, Miss Yumiko of Hana Floral Design, for a Winter Wedding Shoot that I designed back in 2009.

So.. for Part Trois of the Fabulous and Creative Wreath roundup, I decided to go in the direction of "found items".
These are wreaths that can be made with ANY object that is found either natural or man-made..

 The Sea

Living by the sea, we have boxes, bags and jars and filled to the brim with shells...
Unfortunately on the Connecticut Coastline, there is a lack of the exotics...
What we are left with are mussels, jingles, clams, oysters and the famous Stonington scallop...
But I think you might agree..
That they can be just as lovely too...

The Pinecone

Pinecones are a plenty here in the Northeast...
You can't walk anywhere without stepping on one..
I am amazed at just how many different kinds there are..
Whether they are painted, gilded, glittered or au natural..
They certainly stir up Holiday spirit...

The Herb

I just brought in my rosemary plant in hopes that I may use her all winter long for cooking...
But she would look and smell just as lovely as a simple wreath...
How about a eucalyptus wreath in the bathroom?!

The Junk Drawer & The Kitchen

You are sure to have these items around...
Random tacks, apples, spent Christmas bulbs, peppermint candies from your purse and the credit cards that need to be snipped...
They look much prettier as a wreath than in that dreaded messy junk drawer...
