Happy Weekend!!

Image by Tim Walker via Vogue U.K.

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

I spent the most glorious first day of Spring romping, running and swinging with my boys at our most favorite place on earth...
It was heavenly..
To smell treasures from the sea washed ashore ..
To feel the newly thawed earth gently move under our feet..
To see tiny green shoots emerge through rusty brittle leaves..
To taste the salty sea on our lips..
To hear  the sound of waves lapping against the deserted beach..

It was just enough to get my battery going once again...
You see..
I need ALL my energy in the next coming weeks to create a fabulous wedding invitation suite for the lovely Michaela & Mike..
And..
even though I may be inside watching these early Spring days through my window..
with every cut to the paper..
I will be dreaming of..
warm gentle breezes under a summer starry sky listening to the sounds of laughter while breathing in the salty sea air of Cape Cod..

Be Safe, Spring Ahead and Have a Great Weekend!!

Seeds and Stamps...

Certainly one design element that often gets forgotten when creating wedding invitations is the stamp...
Those who are not looking for pricey custom or vintage ones
are left to the mercy of the United States Postal Service...
Sadly the array of .64 cent stamps is exactly that..
SAD...

But this year my lovelies..
This year I could honestly design an entire suite around these FABULOUS vintage seed packet stamps...

Ok..maybe I'm a little biased as they are
some of my favorites colors
and
possibly perhaps
that
90% of them are either growing or soon to be growing in my garden.

Can you imagine how lovely this garden wedding would be?

Brides & Grooms..
I would be running on over to USPS before they all get picked!

Sea for Two....

They say patience is a virtue...
sadly it is one virtue that I don't have...

I just finished up Katie and Joe's wedding suite and instead of waiting months I decided to pick up my camera and shoot away...

Inspired by vintage block prints, the sea and of course my favorite Island..
We created a suite that was both whimsical and alive with color.

With the addition of the word tomfoolery...
I think we can guesstimate that this will be one fun party!!
I honestly can't wait to see the lovely Miss Adrienne O'Connor of Ruffles and Tweed work her magic for their big day!!

Question is...
what would your favorite dance song be?

Take me Back to Ole Virginia......

Image by Ryan Ray via Southern Weddings Magazine

Every time that Chocolate Creative Design lands itself on blogs like Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks or Ruffled
we do an Elaine-style dance of joy...

It is such an honor to be recognized and
I am deeply humbled
when we do.
BUT..
If you have been following along with me on this crazy blog...
then you might just know that I am a magazineophile...

It started with my first copy of Seventeen at 14, followed with me through boarding school and college (lugging them all with me), pushed me into the City where I worked at Mirabella and now they surround me in my house: up in the attic, down in the basement and in little piles of every room
(the act of piling was a gift from my Mom).

In fact....
I have so many magazines that I bet I could fill an entire room and still be able to create furniture and accessories out of them.

So when a little Southern birdie told me that
Chocolate Creative Design would actually be in one...
well....
that's no dance..
That's a PARTY!!!

AND

It's not just ANY magazine either...
It just so happens to be the 5th issue of
Southern Weddings Magazine!!

AND

If you must know...
The Tall One and I have Southern blood running through our veins as BOTH our families originated in Virginia where we both went to college and then later lived and worked.
(all without knowing one another)

SOOOO..

It was definitely kismet when the loveliest of couples,
Tami and James,
asked me to design their paper for their Leesburg, Virginia wedding.

AND

by the looks of their team...

Now if it couldn't get ANY better...

My beautiful college roommate, Miss Rachel who owns
(yes..the original crepe cake maker)
landed herself in the same issue just a few pages apart from me...
Who would have thunk that two crazy girls from little ol' Roanoke College would be in the same magazine at the same time....

Now that MY friends...takes the cake!!

However..

what I am about to say may go against the magazine gods...

This is by far THE best wedding magazine I have EVER seen..

In fact...

Dare I say...
I might just have to box up my Marthas and start ordering Southern Weddings Magazine's back issues...

So lovely brides...
Pop on over to Southern Weddings Magazine and order up some.
You WILL not be disappointed as EVERY page is designed with the most GORGEOUS weddings, ideas and details!!

HUGE  HUGE hugs to Tami and James..
Thank you sooo much for the wonderful opportunity..
As soon as I get more images, I can show the world just how wonderfully trusting you both are!!

Let your imagination grow....Tea for Two Part 2.....

With a little help from my friend Miss Anna Sawin, we sadly close on one of my favorite wedding paper projects EVER!

Beginning with a delicate little program for the church ceremony
(I completely underestimated this part...who knew EVERYONE would take one home!)

To a specialty cocktail menu...
A St. Germain Cocktail!! Yummy!!!

A very clean and simple bar menu....

Finding your way to your seat with the help of a tiny postcard...
showcasing all of their most important places they have traveled to or lived in.

Closing with a deliciously scrumptious sounding menu carefully wrapped with burlap and fastened with a little hay or lavender...
There we have it folks...
I can't believe that in just 10 short days, they will be celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary!

Happy Happy Day to Erin & Dan...
A couple who just seems to glow both inside and out!!

Happy Weekend!!!!!

 Image found via almost famous

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!!!

Things are hustling & bustling here in the Wesson household....
I see rods, reels, millions & trillions of lures, eel buckets, waterproof socks, all weather gear and a few headlamps
making there way through the living room and onto the patio.
Why all the hub-bub you ask??
Well, it's the Annual Wesson Mens fishing tournament at the Island this weekend!!
Maybe this year a Wesson could actually bring home the trophy...
Seems like it's only been friends that have grabbed that beauty.
Seriously folks..this trophy is no laughing matter..
Check it out!
My odds are on the Monster who will be using MY rod & reel...

As competitive as these boys may be...it's really about having fun, staying up all hours and laughing with and at one another!
Many Many Thanks to all of you who crossed your fingers, did a dance or sang a song for Jillian & Dan on their wedding day. From the looks of the images on Facebook...There seemed to be no rain or umbrellas in site. There was a bit of mud, left over from the insane amount of flooding, but that didn't stop that fabulous bride to pull on some Wellies & kick it up on the dance floor.
Thank goodness, the flooding subsided...that way the menus arrived just in the nick of time!

Let your imagination grow..Tea for Two.........

I have to admit, this was one of the hardest posts I have ever had to write...
When we were submitting Erin & Dan's paper to Style Me Pretty, Erin (blogger extraordinaire), was surprisingly hesitant. Her reasoning..."I don't want it to end" she said. At the time it made me giggle....but now I truly understand...
Once it's posted..the project has been completed.

So with much hesitation..

I guess I should start at the very beginning.....

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there was a very tall & handsome boy and a very beautiful and sparkly girl. They lived in a very old home with two cats and they loved each other very very much. One day, the boy flew the girl all the way to Paris, France and asked the girl to marry him. Of course the girl said yes, how could she not with the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower behind her. From that moment on...their lives changed forever. So the girl immediately got started on planning a beautiful wedding and sought after someone who could show their infectious excitement on paper. The girl found a crazy, silly designer who would do just that and both of their lives changed forever. Together, they created  a one-of-a-kind Save the Date, complete with a burlap pouch containing clues to the wedding while focusing on the 5 senses.

The girl and designer stood back, admired their work with absolute joy and quickly started brainstorming and immediately designed the invitation.

The crazy designer got to work...
With tea in a jug, 800 sheets of watercolor paper and brush in hand, the designer headed to her studio.

What seemed like days and even weeks, the designer finally emerged from her studio.
The girl squealed with delight when she went to her mailbox and found their invitation...
Inside she found:

Their Fleur de Lis invitation which she could see, smell and even taste!

Their vintage inspired "Dance Card" reception card.

Their vintage inspired reply postcard(this was the boy's idea) complete with images of Paris, Saltwater Farm, custom postage stamps. their lovely logo and a few french twists...

All wrapped up, reminiscent of love letters from the past, in some crinkly sounding parchment, tied with a little twine and stamped with love.

Finally it was gently (very gently) placed into a Kraft paper envelope which was hand stamped with a bit of lavender, a custom postage stamp and lined with a lovely tea stained vintage map of Paris.

Now the boy and girl were very very happy and very very excited...
They couldn't wait for their wedding day!

But something happened that day....
something quite remarkable...
While the crazy designer was busy cleaning up her studio filled with jars and jars of tea and bits and pieces of twine...
She had a an AHA moment!
She realized that through this ONE creation...
this is what she wanted to do..
No more sending her work out to printers...
She would do it here..right here in her little ole studio.
She would ONLY take on 4 wedding couples a year.
She would ONLY do one-of-a-kind invitations that would never ever be reproduced  for another couple.
She would ONLY create pieces that would invoke the 5 senses.

Funny enough..it made complete sense....
The designer had a degree in studio arts focusing on photography & drawing. She even became a super hero when it came to wielding an X-acto knife, thanks in part to her thousands of clothing sample mock-ups when she was a head designer at a Childrenswear company.

It was all clear to her now...This marriage between fine arts & commercial design was just the ticket for her!

So...the designer was also very very happy and very very excited..

She owes it all to the boy and girl who trusted, believed, inspired and supported her.

It just goes to show you,
how utterly simple it is that just
ONE creation
or just
One person
can change absolutely everything....
Simply by just letting your imagination grow!

The End
(or at least until the ceremony & reception paper)

Oh wait...the designer did learn a few more things....
Always make sure to dress appropriately when shooting with a sneaky photographer....or else you will cringe later when you see the images....

Always make sure you have another eye to check on you when you are styling..a 2nd opinion is very very important and quite helpful!

Lastly, always make time to catch a butterfly or a fuzzy caterpillar....
It will make a photo shoot much much better!

Special Thanks to Island Farm on Elihu Island
whose beautiful hayfields were the perfect backdrop for
Miss Sparkle & Hay's paper goods!

It also provided some yummy apples to some little ravenous monsters while their mommy's worked!
